Chat & Slash Commands

Use chat to talk with teammates, run slash commands, mention people, and reply in context.

Chat & Slash Commands

Mycelo’s built-in chat isn’t just for talking—it’s a command center for your project. Communicate with your team, create tasks on the fly, mention colleagues, and keep track of conversations all within your workspace.

Getting Started with Chat

To open the chat sidebar, look for the chat icon in the toolbar or use the keyboard shortcut (if available). The chat appears as a slide-out panel from the right side of the screen, overlaying your canvas.

What You’ll See

  • Chat Header: Shows “Workspace Chat” with a close button (X) in the top-right.
  • Messages Area: Displays all messages in chronological order, with the most recent at the bottom.
  • Input Area: At the bottom, where you type messages, use commands, or select emojis.

Messages include timestamps, and long conversations are grouped by date with separators like “Today” or “Yesterday”.

Slash Commands

Slash commands let you perform actions directly from the chat without leaving your workflow. Start any message with a forward slash (/) followed by the command.

Creating Tasks with /task

The /task command instantly creates a new task in your workspace.

How to use it:

  1. Type /task followed by a space and your task description.
  2. Press Enter or click the send button.

Example:

/task Review homepage design

What happens step-by-step:

  1. As soon as you send the command, you’ll see a temporary indicator: “Creating task…” with a spinning loader.
  2. The system creates a new task with the title you provided and sets its status to “Open”.
  3. A confirmation message appears in the chat, formatted as a clickable link: [Task: Review homepage design].
  4. Click the link to open the task details panel, where you can edit it, assign it, or mark it complete.
  5. The task is now part of your workspace’s task list and visible to all team members.

This is perfect for capturing ideas or action items during brainstorming sessions without interrupting your flow.

Mentions

Draw attention to specific team members by mentioning them with the @ symbol.

How to mention someone:

  1. Type @ in the chat input.
  2. A dropdown list appears showing all workspace members (up to 5 matches based on what you’ve typed).
  3. Use arrow keys to navigate or click to select a user.
  4. Press Enter, Tab, or click to insert the mention.

What you’ll see:

  • The mention appears as a blue, bold tag in your message, e.g., @john.doe.
  • When sent, the mentioned user receives a notification (depending on their settings).
  • In the message, the mention is highlighted for easy recognition.

Example: Typing @joh might show:

  • @john.doe
  • @jane.smith

Select one, and it inserts @john.doe into your message.

Replying to Messages

Keep conversations organized by replying directly to specific messages.

How to reply:

  1. Right-click on a message (or tap and hold on mobile devices).
  2. Choose “Reply” from the menu that appears.
  3. Type your response—the original message appears as a preview above the input.

What you’ll see:

  • A “Replying to” bar shows the author and a snippet of the original message.
  • Your reply is threaded under the original, with a visual indicator.
  • Click the X in the reply bar to cancel.
